How To Decide If Top Surgery Is Right For You

Deciding On Top Surgery

If you’re thinking of getting top surgery, you probably have many questions. You may also not be sure if this procedure is right for you. Many people prefer to bind while others are more comfortable having their breasts removed. If you’re unsure if top surgery is the right way to go, we can help.

Do you know what you want the outcome to be?

For many people, they feel their breasts get in the way of their true identity and wish to get rid of them. For others, they are unsure of how they’ll adapt to making the adjustment mentally. If you’re struggling to answer this question, it doesn’t mean that top surgery is wrong for you, but rather it may mean that you’re just not ready right now. It’s understandable to have misgivings about losing your breasts no matter how much you want to get rid of them. They have been a part of you for a long time and being completely free of breasts could take some getting used to.

Sensations may change

There is no guarantee that after top surgery your nipples will retain any sensation. Many people feel this is a small price to pay for getting the body they’ve always wanted. Others are not so sure they can live without nipple sensation. Not everyone loses feeling in their nipples after top surgery, but there is a fair chance that it will happen.

Can you afford it?

Unfortunately, top surgery isn’t free in all areas of the country. However, some provincial and private insurance providers do cover it. Check to see what you’re eligible for, because if it’s the price that’s keeping you from having the procedure done, you could possibly have full coverage.

Find a surgeon who “gets” you

Even if you haven’t made a decision about top surgery, you should meet with a surgeon anyway. Any good surgeon will go through the procedure with you and explain in detail what to expect. The most important thing about meeting with a surgeon is trust. The surgeon who will be performing your top surgery needs to make you feel comfortable and be available to answer questions and ease your mind. If you can’t find a surgeon who you connect with, you will likely want to move onto another consultation.Having top surgery can change your life but it is not for everybody. If you have questions or wish to make a consultation appointment, contact FTM Surgery. We’re here to help whether you decide to have the procedure or not.
