Body Positive New Year's Resolutions For 201

New year, new you. You’ve probably heard that before, but it’s easier said than done, especially if you’re a member of the transgender community. While you may not have undergone FTM top surgery yet or have just recently had the procedure done, it’s important to explore body positivity.

To help you out, here are four body positive new year’s resolutions for 2018:

  • Don’t judge others on what they look like even if they are judging you: Society still has a ways to go when it comes to transgender acceptance. However, that doesn’t mean you should judge others even though they are judging you. Plus, you’ll feel better about your body if you’re not judging others on theirs.
  • Compliment your body: Compliments can go a long way, and who better to compliment you than yourself. Everyday, stand in front of a mirror (fully clothed or naked; it’s your call) and compliment one body part. For example, say something like: “I like my fingers.” It may sound silly, but, after a while, you’ll experience some pretty positive emotions about your body that you may never have thought possible.
  • Avoid the scale: If you are doing hormone replacement therapy or have recently undergone FTM top surgery, you may gain some weight. After top surgery you will need to recover for a few months and you won’t be able to exercise right away. Being sedentary may cause you to put on some unwanted pounds or the testosterone (T) in your body may do the same. On the contrary, you may drop some weight and get mad at yourself for losing bulk. If you can stay off the scale while you recover from your surgery or are taking T, you’ll feel better about yourself. The number on the scale doesn’t matter right now. What matters is you are taking the steps to be who you truly are on the inside and outside.
  • Walk into every room like you own it: Body positivity starts with you. Sure, that’s a blanket statement but think of it every time you enter a room. If people see that you’re comfortable with yourself, they may take that as a cue to accept you. Walk into every room like you own it and love your body.

Who you are on the inside may not match who you are on the outside yet but that’s okay. Please contact us for more information about our FTM top surgery procedures. We can help you get the body you’ve always known was yours.
